Martin Smit

Martin, a native of Rustenburg South Africa, developed his passion for nature from an early age. It is this passion that led him to a bachelorís degree in Botany and Biochemistry followed by a masterís degree in Ecological Remediation and Sustainable Utilization at the North-West University in Potchefstroom. During his studies he was involved as a volunteer at the North-West University Botanical Garden and also worked at a local nursery. In 2007 he was appointed as the curator of the North-West University Botanical Garden. In 2009 he obtained the International Diploma in Botanic Garden Management at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew in London. During his tenure at the North-West University he was actively involved in research and education but his greatest effort went into reviving the North-West University Botanical Garden. His other interests include ethnobotany, bonsai, arts and culture.
