New World Species
A checklist of New World delphacid species.
The higher taxonomy presented here follows that of Asche (1985, 1990) as modified by Urban et al. (2010). Emeljanov (1996) and Hamilton (2006) differ in presenting only two or three subfamilies with the remainder reduced to tribes, but their arrangement is otherwise similar.
A simple listing of delphacid classification, including the placement of delphacid genera in higher categories. I've included links to the genus-pages on this site.
Click the link following the tribe name for a listing of the New World species in that tribe. Some genera (eventually all the genera) have links to more detailed descriptions.
The entire list in PDF format
will be posted here soon. is here. (This should be the same file that is posted on the menu to the left).
A list of type species of New World delphacid genera is here.
Photos of Delphacidae on the web:
I'll try to link to these sites as appropriate, but some sites that give good photos of Delphacidae are:
Subfamily Asiracinae (a description of the features of the Asiracinae is here. I am still working on the other subfamilies)
Tribe Asiracini Fieber, 1892 (2 New World genera)
Tribe Idiosystanini Emeljanov 1996 (3 New World genera)
Tribe Neopunanini Emeljanov 1996 (1 New World genus)
Tribe Platysystatini Emeljanov 1996 (3 New World genera)
Tribe Tetrasteirini Emeljanov 1996 (1 New World genus)
Tribe Ugyopini Fennah, 1979 (2 New World genera)
Subfamily Vizcayinae (No New World species; 10 species in 2 genera, tropical Asia)
Tribe Vizcayini Asche, 1990
Tribe Plesiodelphacini Asche, 1985 (2 New World genera)
Tribe Kelisiini Wagner, 1963 (1 New World genus)
Tribe Stenocranini Wagner, 1963 (5 New World genera)
Tribe Saccharosydnini Vilbaste, 1968 (4 New World genera)
Tribe Tropidocephalini Muir, 1915 (5 New World genera)
Tribe Delphacini Leach, 1815 (76 New world genera)
Below are New World species lists with synonymy (a more updated list available as a PDF at top of this page). I plan on replacing these static lists with a database sometime soon.
